Excelsior Engagement Photography | Lauren & Ted | Excelsior Engagement Photographer

Lauren & Ted Enjoy their Engagement Session in Downtown Excelsior!

Ted and Lauren are getting married this August, and their engagement session was the perfect mix of relaxed and meaningful. We met up at a lake that Lauren grew up around, which added an extra personal touch to the whole experience.

These two are easygoing and fun to be around. They’ve done such a great job planning their wedding, and it was nice to pause and just enjoy some time together outside. You could tell they were happy to just be in the moment.

The best part? We wrapped things up with Sebastian Joe’s ice cream from Tommy’s Tonka Trolley—because honestly, is there a better way to end a photo session?

I’m so looking forward to seeing them again soon for their wedding day!

Walking on St Anthony Main with Anisa and Nathan for Engagement Photos!

Discover this dreamy Minneapolis engagement session on St. Anthony Main with Anisa and Nathan. Sunset glow, river views, and city charm—perfect inspiration for engaged couples planning photos in Minnesota.

There’s something undeniably magical about a summer evening in Minneapolis—and St. Anthony Main delivers every time. With its cobblestone streets, riverfront views, and historic charm, it was the perfect backdrop for Anisa and Nathan’s engagement session. Their connection, laughter, and sweet in-between moments made this session one to remember.

A Perfect Evening on St. Anthony Main

We met up just before golden hour, when the light starts to get soft and warm. St. Anthony Main is one of the most iconic engagement photo locations in Minneapolis for a reason. From the views of the Stone Arch Bridge to the skyline reflecting on the Mississippi River, there’s no shortage of romantic spots. As the sun dipped lower, the whole city lit up in the most gorgeous golden tones—it was pure magic.

Anisa wore a soft, flowy dress that caught the breeze just right, and Nathan kept it timeless in a clean button-up and slacks. Their style was effortlessly chic, and it matched the classic vibe of the location perfectly.

Why St. Anthony Main Is a Top Minneapolis Engagement Spot

Engaged couples looking for Minneapolis engagement photo locations often ask for something that blends nature and urban charm. St. Anthony Main checks every box:

  • Cobblestone paths for timeless portraits

  • Stunning views of the Mississippi River

  • The Stone Arch Bridge and skyline in the background

  • Cozy cafes and twinkle lights for evening photos

It’s especially beautiful in the evening when the city lights begin to glow and there’s a soft, romantic atmosphere in the air.

Capturing Connection

One of the best parts of this session was how relaxed and connected Anisa and Nathan were. We spent the session walking, talking, and finding moments to pause and soak in the beauty around us. These two are so naturally affectionate—it made capturing their love feel effortless.

Their laughs were real, their hugs were long, and their story unfolded in front of my lens. Whether they were wrapped up in each other on a park bench or dancing on a quiet corner, it was easy to see how much they adore each other.

How to Prepare For My Minnesota Winter Engagement | Minnesota Engagement Photographer

Tips to Keep Warm for Your Minnesota Winter Engagement Photography Session!

Minnesota in winter is Magical. I am not the first person to think so! I LOVE snow and the whole season is one of my all-time favorites. If you are from the Midwest/ Minnesota, you KNOW it can be SO COLD.

I have some tips for you to make your Minnesota Winter Engagement Session more enjoyable overall!

1) Bring Hand and Feet Warmers - This is the biggest blessing I try to remember ever winter engagement session or wedding. They are so cheap there is no reason not to have an extra one or two packed in your purse for your photos.

2) Dress in Layers - I feel like the biggest advantage Minnesotans have against the harsher winters is knowing how to dress so you are comfortable. This should not be left behind when you are planning your engagement session in the winter months. Many couples have two outfits for their engagement photos. Use a cute winter aesthetic to add in a nice winter hat and gloves to make the time together more enjoyable.

3) Bring on that Coffee - Any hot drinks will feel like a godsend when you are bracing for those cold days. Don’t be afraid to bring a thermos of your favorite hot beverage to warm your soul between photos.

4) Plan a small warming break if possible - Depending on if you are at a local park or in the city, try taking a small break in a local coffee shop or jump in your car to warm your fingers up. There is nothing wrong with taking a small warmup break so you can feel your face again.

5) Bring a cozy blanket to cuddle up in - I love this there is something to cute about cuddling up with your fiance for your photos! This could be just an extra prop to be able to add to the variety of your photos while still keeping you warm!

Bonus!: Really lean into your engagement session being in winter by choose a really fun winter activity like Ice Skating, Skiing, Snow Shoeing, or enjoying a small bonfire together! They photos will be SOOO worth it!
