For the Bride

Tips on Bustling Your Wedding Dress | MW Photography | Minneapolis Brides

When prepared for properly, your bustle should only take a few minutes!

As a wedding photographer, I have seen many brides struggle with bustling their wedding dress during the reception. A well-designed and color-coded bustle can make this process much easier, allowing you to enjoy your reception without worrying about tripping over your dress. Here are some tips for color coding your wedding dress bustle. Some of these tips will need to be communicated to your seamstress to make happen when you are having your dress altered.

  1. Choose a color: Select a color that is visible and contrasts well with your dress. You can use different colors for different layers of your dress, or use the same color for all of the layers. I have seen some brides do color blue to blue for ties/buttons to match quickly.

  2. Gather your materials: Work with your seamstress to add ribbon, thread, and a needle that matches the color of your chosen ribbon. Make sure the ribbon is sturdy enough to hold the weight of your dress.

  3. Plan your bustle: Determine the number of layers on your dress and where the bustle points will be. You can work with your seamstress to determine the best placement for the bustle points.

  4. Sew the ribbon: Using a needle and thread, sew the ribbon to the underside of each bustle point on your dress. Make sure the ribbon is securely attached.

  5. Mark the ribbon: Use a marker or pen to mark each ribbon with the corresponding layer of your dress. This will help you quickly and easily identify each bustle point.

  6. Practice the bustle: Make sure to practice busting your dress before your wedding day. Have someone help you and take note of any adjustments that need to be made. I have had this job be put on a lot of Maid of Honors. Tip: If the bustle is more advanced, take a video of it being bustled by the seamstress to help the process go fast on the day of!

  7. Label the ribbon: Use small labels or tags to mark each ribbon with the corresponding layer of your dress. This will help ensure that you have the right bustle point for each layer.

By color-coding your wedding dress bustle, you can make the bustling process much easier and stress-free. This will allow you to focus on enjoying your reception and dancing the night away with your loved ones.

Here are some tips to help you choose the right wedding photographer for you:

  1. Determine your style: What type of photographs do you want to capture on your wedding day? Do you prefer a more traditional, posed look or a more candid, photojournalistic approach? Consider your personal style and preferences when choosing a photographer.

  2. Check their portfolio: A photographer's portfolio will give you a good idea of their style, creativity, and the type of photographs they are capable of capturing. Look for a portfolio that showcases a variety of images that you love, and that tells the story of each wedding in a unique and meaningful way.

  3. Consider their experience: Make sure your photographer has experience capturing weddings similar to your own. Consider their level of experience, the number of weddings they have shot, and the type of weddings they specialize in.

  4. Ask for references: Don't hesitate to ask the photographer for references from past clients. This will give you a good idea of their level of professionalism and the type of experience their clients have had.

  5. Communicate your needs: Be clear about what you want and expect from your photographer. Communicate your vision for your special day, and make sure your photographer is on the same page.

  6. Ask about their editing process: A good photographer will have a professional editing process in place to ensure that your photographs are the best they can be. Make sure you understand how your photographs will be edited and what type of final product you can expect.

  7. Consider their personality: Your wedding photographer will be with you for most of your wedding day, so it's important to choose someone who you feel comfortable around and who has a personality that matches your own.

Maidenwood Events Wedding Venue | Wisconsin Wedding Venue | Wisconsin Wedding Photographer

Maidenwood Events Wedding Venue - a New Wisconsin Wedding Venue of Your Outdoor Dreams

I don’t normally get to check out new wedding venues, but when I do I take pictures!
This venue has just switched ownership to the cutest family who is excited to really make it shine.

My photographer friend Gina and I drove out to this property to explore the land and the reception area. It is a Stockholm wedding venue sitting on 40 acres of property! Being so big we drove the property on a 4 wheeler and it was awesome. So glad we went when we did because a week after this it snowed!

Here is what I think is special about this venue - THE VIEWS!
One of the ceremony spots is in a grass field with a backdrop of hills and Lake Pepin. The wedding guests have one walk to the field while the bridal party has a separate entry space to make the brides entrance that much more amazing!

The Main Ceremony Space!

Also known as Wedding Circle this is the ceremony space with THE view. Although friendly for ceremonies from all times of day, As you can see the sun sets right behind the hills. This spot is PERFECT for a sunset ceremony.
Although we checked out this venue in the fall, in the summer the tall grass is all green and yellow flowers.
The photo of the long walkway is where the bride will walk up to the circle!

The Reception Space

The main reception space is a white barn close to the house that fits roughly 200 guests. Although not shown here, this inside has tall ceilings and long tables great for a family style reception. The new owner of Maidenwood also has a Wedding DJ business! So you know your first dance will be a top priority as they prepare this space for upcoming weddings! The sides of this reception barn have sprawling open lawn, perfect space for cocktail hours, lawn games, and guests hangout. For colder days they even have a fire pit readily available.

The Photo Lookout

A small drive into the property will bring you to this stunning lookout. More of this session below with Kara & Jacob can be seen HERE!!!! no matter the season this is one view that will not get old. This spot is perfect for Bride and Groom portraits at sunset. The space is small enough I would not recommend more than 3 to 4 people at this location.

The Dream

It was so much fun to hear what the new owners envision for this place! It is brimming with potential. They are looking into adding additional ceremony sites on the property. One being making a ceremony spot among their pine trees. The red barn below is being considered as an indoor ceremony spot for a rainy day option.
They are considering using the house to have the mans lounge and the sun room as the girls getting ready room. They have a space above the garage they call The Nest, they are considering using as a Honeymoon suite!

The venue is perfect for Brides and Groom who love the outdoors. These guys are so excited to start serving you for your wedding day. Guess what! They are booking weddings now. You can set up a time to go see the property for yourself through their website. You can reach out HERE.
